Hot Air Balloons

August 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

This weekend we got in the boat and drove around Lake Travis in anticipation of the hot air balloon launch off the dam. At sunrise the first balloons started emerging through the trees.

We chased them around the lake and even got to talk to a few of the pilots as they touched down on the water.

I had been excited about it all week, but it turned out better than I could have imagined. It was like watching a slow-motion firework show close-up, or huge levitating tops.

We spent a few hours on the lake just watching the dozen balloons make their way across the lake.

The local balloon club does this every year and it’s worth getting up at 6AM for. Especially when you have a grandmother who cooks breakfast afterward.

** UPDATE: You can see more pictures like these on my flickr.

Hi Becky. You got a great picture of our multi-colored balloon (the last one of your series, where breakfast afterwards was mentioned). Would you be willing to send us the full size image of it? We would so appreciate it!
